What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality refers to the multiple methods for embedding virtual objects in a sequence of images.

In the building sector, this technology is used in particular to superimpose 3D representations on a view of reality, it is then the BIM objects of the model that will be visualized in the real environment.

What are the uses of Augmented Reality in buildings?

From this augmented view comes a multitude of uses, among which we can mention:

  • The detection and visualization of invisible elements (e.g.: buried networks);
  • The representation of future construction stages, to better understand the planning of a site;
  • Comparing the virtual to reality to detect possible clashes between construction and design.

Superimposing a BIM model on site in the sight of a work, maintenance or architect manager will greatly improve their understanding of the building or project.
